Planning your wedding and getting inspiration.

Not sure where to start when it comes to planning your wedding? What are the most important things to consider and what resources can you use in order to help you plan? In this blog we suggest a few resources and ideas that will make this process much more fun!

#1 - Decide on a theme

The theme of a wedding is a great starting point, it enables you to set the tone of the wedding and will help to narrow down options when it comes to adding elements to the wedding. This could be as simple as picking a colour or range of colours as your base theme. By doing this you eliminate options when it comes to planning the finer details. Flowers, stationery and wedding favours can all follow the theme you pick. Other popular themes are black tie, beachfront, autumnal leaves, summer flowers….. the list goes on.

But what other themes can you pick from? We would suggest setting up a Pinterest board and pinning your favourite wedding pics from the app to start to get a sense of what your common theme is. You will quickly see what resonates with you the most and you’ll also gain a visual dream board that you can share with your partner/wedding planner/wider family.

Going bold or keeping it low key? Whichever themes you narrow down to, visualise the end result and piece together all the elements that will help achieve the overall goal.

#2 Create your wish list - factoring in your budget

Once a theme is established, your wish list then becomes much easier to populate. Get organised by running through your ideal wish list for the big day. What elements do you want to incorporate and what supplies do you need? Remember, at this stage you are creating a wish list, not the final to do/shopping list. At this point we suggest getting all your ideals down on paper in order to see the bigger picture.

Once this list has been created, think about the budget you have for the wedding and whether your “wishes” realistically fit into it. Start to source prices for the elements on your list and come up with an overall “total” cost for the wedding. This will of course be very fluid and can fluctuate when you start to actually source items and bring elements on board.

If you are within your budget - wonderful! If you are over, think about alternative options that might be more $ friendly. If you’re feeling creative then consider making some of your own elements. Hand made wedding stationery is simply divine and really does get you into the mood of the occassion!

#3 Set the date and location

When do you want to get married? Is there a date that you want to set for sentimental reasons or are you looking at the seasons and wanting to tie this into your theme? Whatever the reason, now’s the time to pick a date! You might want to check with the important people in your life before you seal the deal as you’ll be disappointed if they can’t make it.

Venue/location is the next step. This could be closely tied into your theme is you are picking a seasonal theme or city/beach vibe. Remember, have a back up option just in case your first option becomes unavailable.

This is also a good time to start thinking about your guest list. If you are staying local then your guests will probably need less notice of the date than they would if you are expecting them to travel for the wedding.
